… and the present blog author is not Kevin. It is his wife, Ine. This is because I wanted to split his online information from my own homepage without losing any of the good stuff and also make it easily accessible for himself to edit and change as he wishes. At the moment his online information is incorporated into my webpage and hosted on my computer. Moving it online is just — easier.

And yes, the header image is the NY city skyline without the twin towers.

Hopefully he will take to this idea and take over at some point, and when that happens I guess this posting will disappear. I hope. So for now; bear with me — this site is under construction!

Kevin as Marc in ART by Yasmina Reza

Kevin as Marc in ART by Yasmina Reza

Well, Educating Rita is over and Kevin has since then directed and appeared in ART, together with Jack Babb and Brian Hatfield. Which is now also over. And Kevin is headed for the UK as I write on a deserved holiday to his beloved London, as well as a trip to Aberdeen to see his family.

This is the second time he directed ART, and the second time he appeared in it, but this time the part of Serge was played by Jack. Last time it was Michael Lopez who is quite a different person and who therefore must have delivered quite a different performance. Just to state the obvious. Wish I could have seen that but I was in London at the time.

But I was not disappointed in ART at all. And the painting, the white canvas with white paint, was expertly produced by Laura Mitchell. Seriously, she is good at that stuff. So good I asked her to paint one for me. No, it is not the same as buying just a white canvas. She makes the white paint show, and it looks good. Really good. So I’ve asked her to make me one that I can put on the wall of my new flat.

Laura also had the genius idea to produce a series of white paintings to sell at the theatre. I have no idea how well she’s done out of it: I hope well. Kevin got one as well, though a slightly smaller one. Quite a lot smaller, actually. Tiny, now that I think about it.

Anyway, Kevin is now on a holiday, and then it is back to the good old grindstone of writing sports teasers for bwin.com and generally getting through life. I guess.

Educating Rita — review

And if you can’t read German, I can tell you in one word that this review is good!

“A scorcher of a start to the new season — what more can a theatre wish for? One is simply completely happy when in the International Theatre in Vienna, for everything works in the performance of ‘Educating Rita’: from the choice of play to the performers to the director.

The intellectually somewhat shallowly informed hairdresser Rita (Roxanne Carless with wonderful English lower-class accent) has got it into her head to get a degree. For that she finds herself under the wings of the equally brilliant and frustrated, as well as alcoholic, professor Frank (the excellent Jack Babb). He eventually sees in her a new challenge in his stunted life and seems to, with ambition and passion, to once more seize the day.

Perfectly portrayed is Rita’s transformation from a shallow and inexperienced girl into a student. Here the development of her language, the ever changing clothes (costumes by Gloria Sattél) and the development of Rita’s personality into maturity work to perfection.

A thoroughly convincing performance with humour and spirit which makes this modern day adaption of the Pygmalion-story a real joy.
